Violin Tutoring
Beginners’ Fiddle Tuition.
Myddo’s Music can now offer beginners fiddle/violin tuition with an emphasis on a traditional/folk style and learning by ear. Adults or children catered for and loan instruments can be arranged. Half-hour lessons are at our premises in Langwarrin, Victoria (near Frankston) or at your address, at extra cost, if the distance isn’t too great. Written material for your reference/practise will be provided for each lesson.
Topics covered include:
- Parts of the fiddle and bow and how they work. Caring for your violin and bow. Accessories.
- Standard tuning GDAE. Holding the fiddle and bow, classical and folk positions.
- Basic bowing e.g. single bows, slurs, triplets.
- Basic fingering. 1st tune. Parts of tunes, simple exercises and riffs.
- Scale of D major.
- Scale of A major.
- Scale of G major over 2 octaves.
- Introduction to minor keys.
- Basic music theory in relation to the fiddle.
- More tunes including a polka, jig, reel, and waltz.
- Introduction to basic ornamentation.
